A "smart" production system for "smart" and high-quality measuring instruments: This convinced the jury of "Allianz Industrie 4.0". On December 6, 2017, Lorenz was awarded one of the "100 Landmarks for Industry 4.0" by Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and the VDMA thereby honour the development and production of cutting-edge smart meters and the associated ultra-modern production facilities at the Schelklingen site as a groundbreaking industrial achievement.
"Being one of the 100 frontrunners for Industrial IoT in the high-tech state of Baden-Württemberg, alongside large corporations and research institutions, makes us very proud. The jury's assessment reinforces our conviction that it is not cheap goods but genuine quality and added customer value that ultimately pay off for everyone involved," said Lorenz CEO Wilhelm Mauß.
Cutting-edge production system for smart meters
After several years of development and an investment volume of several million euros, the new production facility gradually went into operation in 2017/2018. The digitized production system allows to combine cost efficiency and variant diversity: High flexibility and maximum customer focus are combined with economic efficiency. Production is optimized in terms of time, costs and quality as well as availability, adherence to schedules and inventories.
Once again, Lorenz commits itself to production in Germany and its employees at the traditional manufacturing site, against the industry trend. Networked production not only makes the complexity of increasingly diverse requirements manageable: The resulting quality products and services create genuine added value for customers - and thus a decisive competitive advantage for Germany as a business location.
The "Industrie 4.0" Alliance
Allianz Industrie 4.0 is a network initiated and funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics. Together with the participating partner organizations, competencies in production as well as information and communication technology are bundled in order to accompany industrial companies towards the Industrial IoT: "Industrie 4.0". Coordination is carried out by the Mechanical Engineering Association VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau).
